Jesus Heals – Story of a Twelve Year Old

Looking back, I know she can say that it was just the beginning of her lifelong relationship with Jesus, her Savior and Best Friend]

Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

While reading the Bible today, the story of Jairus’ daughter in Luke 8:49-56 reminded me of what happened in my life when I was twelve. Jesus raised Jairus’s daughter from death to life when she was twelve years old.

I was an active, healthy girl who had represented my school in inter-school sports events. I did not have any health issues until then. Suddenly one day my ankle was swollen and there was pain too. Next day my knee got infected and thereafter all my joints. Gradually, I had difficulty walking on my own and was admitted to a hospital. I was diagnosed with rheumatic fever and the doctor informed my parents that it had slightly affected my heart valve too.

I was given medication and admitted in the hospital for three weeks, and was later discharged from there. The doctor advised me to take injection every month, Aspirin tablets 2-3 times a day, and that I had to continue the medication as long as I lived.

Once we reached home, one of my aunties came to visit me and she told my mother that I needed prayer and that Jesus can heal me. My aunty asked my mother to take me to a Pastor named John (Yonachan) in Variyapuram, Kerala. So my mother took me to that Pastor, and I will never forget that day.

Once we reached the house, we were taken to the prayer room. When he started praying, he asked me whether I had nighmares with snakes and elephants in my dreams. It was true. He started praying for me, and I heard him casting out evil spirits in Jesus’ name – suddenly I experienced an electric shock running from my head to toe. That very minute, I was healed.

After prayer, he told me that I was healed and that on my next medical check-up, the doctor will be surprised to see the healing in my body. And that is exactly what happened. The doctor was so surprised that he could not believe the divine healing. The doctor asked me to meet him every month for check ups and asked me to stop my medication. I was totally healed!

Luke 8:49-56

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”

They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.
