And then it happened. The disciples just asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. Jesus smiled in response, and led them to a conversation with God, and He said – “Our Father”.
Did you hear that? Heaven sure did, and the Father’s heart leaped – He was waiting for a People to finally open their eyes to this truth. Stop there – can you imagine what had just happened?
The disciples had been with Jesus for a few days now, and they woke up to another beautiful day to follow and be with Yeshua. This was a day Heaven was waiting for. Today, Jesus would do something that was unheard of. He would say something that would break open the heavens – two words – two simple words – that would fulfill many of the Words spoken by the Prophets.

Jesus introduced the Lord of Heaven and Earth, the Creator God, Adonai, Yahweh to the disciples and us as His Father – as Our Father. Jesus’ ministry thereafter was about revealing who God actually is – not just to His disciples but to all who were watching, to all who would one day hear or read the events of what had happened a couple thousand years ago.
Mathew 11 is a beautiful display of this Father-Son intimacies where Jesus like in many other instances in the Gospels converses with His Father. He said – “The Father has given me all these things to do and say. This is a unique Father-Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does.
But I’m not keeping it to myself; I’m ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen.” [Mathew 11: 27 – The Message]
Later on, Jesus paints the life that awaits every single person on earth when they choose to receive Him. It is a story you may well have heard and read of but we often think the prodigal son’s story ends with his return to the Father’s house and the crazy party that was thrown for him by his Father. There is so much more to the story..
Watch this space for Part II.
